Eastman CAB-500-5 is a high butyryl cellulose ester with one of the lowest hydroxyl contents of all Eastman cellulose acetate butyrate esters.
As might be expected from the high butyryl content,CAB-500-5 offers a wide range of solubility and compatibility. It produces a relatively soft, flexible film requiring little or no plasticizer in many applications.Like other cellulose acetate butyrate types,CAB-500-5 exhibits desirable film properties such as low color, good resistance to weathering, and color stability under exposure to ultraviolet light.
CAB-500-5 is used as a filmformer and additive in applications including hot-melt strippable coatings and lacquers for paper, plastic, and leather. It is also useful in inks and as a flowcontrol additive in polyurethane and polyester coatings.Because of the low hydroxyl and high butyryl content,CAB-500-5 can be formulated into emulsion coatings for leather for improvement of "hand"or the natural feel of the leather.
CAB-500-5 is supplied as a dry,free-flowing powder.
